Biosecurity
Healthy animals make a good Show. The Berry Show follows NSW biosecurity law and the guidance of AgShows NSW and the NSW Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD). Rules can change at short notice, especially for poultry, so check this page again before you come.
For visitors
- Wash or sanitise your hands after touching any animal, and before you eat.
- Don’t feed the animals unless a handler invites you to.
- Keep your dog on a lead and away from the livestock sheds and pens. Dogs aren’t allowed in any building, except registered service dogs.
- If an animal looks sick or distressed, tell a steward or the Show Office rather than approaching it.
- If you keep livestock or poultry at home, change your shoes and clothes before going near your own animals after the Show.
For livestock exhibitors
Electronic tags from 1 January 2027. From 1 January 2027, all livestock except pigs must be individually identified with an NLIS-approved device and recorded to the showground’s PIC. This applies to the 2027 Show, so make sure your animals are tagged before you travel. The Berry Showground PIC is NK464606.
Paperwork. Bring a National Vendor Declaration and the right health declaration for each animal:
- Cattle: National Cattle Health Declaration, including Pestivirus (PI-negative) status where required
- Goats: National Goat Health Declaration
- Horses: AgShows NSW Horse Health Declaration, including your PIC. Only healthy horses may come onto the grounds, and Hendra vaccination is encouraged.
- Poultry: AgShows NSW Poultry Health Declaration
Cattle. Tested-negative animals are housed separately, there’s no access to communal water troughs, and you need to supply, use and remove your own bedding and water containers. Johne’s disease declarations for tested cattle go to the Chief Steward before unloading. See the full conditions in the beef and dairy schedules.
Cattle tick. If your cattle or horses are coming from a tick-affected area, including Queensland, check the current NSW DPIRD movement and treatment requirements before you travel.
Poultry and bird flu
The poultry section runs under the NSW DPIRD H5 bird flu guidance for shows. Waterfowl aren’t in the 2027 schedule because of these requirements. If government advice changes before the Show, the poultry section may be changed or cancelled, and we’ll post any update here.
After the Show, keep returning birds apart from your other birds for 14 days and watch for any illness or unusual deaths.
Report sick animals
Report unusual illness or sudden death in any animal to a steward straight away. You can also call the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline on 1800 675 888.
